Young People’s Training Band

Would your son or daughter like to learn a brass instrument?

  • tuition and weekly rehearsals for just £1 per week
  • free loan of a brass instrument, beginners welcome
  • Wednesday evenings 6:30-7:30pm

Our training band is open to all aspiring young musicians, regardless of ability or prior experience. Tuition of brass and percussion instruments is given before a weekly rehearsal of the training band. The band is directed by Craig Patterson, an accomplished local musician, conductor and tutor. We are planning to have regular concerts, including joint concerts with St Albans City Brass Band.

Who can come?
The Training Band is open to any young person who wishes to learn a brass instrument or who wishes to improve their existing playing. Parents are also welcome to come along and learn alongside the young people if they would like to have a go.

How much does it cost?
The cost for the Training Band is £1 per week, per person. This includes all tuition during the session and also the use of a Band instrument, if required.

Instrument Loan
Instruments will be available to loan for those who require them at no additional cost. This instrument can be taken home to practise in between the Training Band sessions. All we ask is that you take good care of it and if it gets damaged, please let us know.

When does it happen?
Every Wednesday evening, 6:30 – 7:30pm during Hertfordshire Term Times. The sessions lasts for one hour; the first half hour is for teaching, and the second half hour for a group rehearsal.

Where does it happen?
The Training Band takes place at the St Albans City Brass Bandroom which is located at Unit 5A, Parkway, Porters Wood, St Albans, AL3 6PA. Our bandroom is upstairs in this unit and has plentiful space for teaching and full band rehearsals. There is also ample free parking at both the front and rear of the building.
