Would your son or daughter like to learn a brass instrument? Are you a young person who would like to play brass?

  • tuition and weekly rehearsals for just £5 per week
  • free loan of a brass instrument (if needed), beginners welcome
  • Wednesday early evenings during Hertfordshire term times
  • Our youth band is for brass and percussion players in Year 6 and above who have progressed beyond the first 5 notes on their instrument and want to play music with others. The band is directed by Simon Tong, an accomplished local musician, conductor and tutor. Tuition of brass and percussion instruments is given before a weekly rehearsal of the band. We are planning to having regular concerts, including joint concerts with St Albans City Brass Band.

Sign ups are now open and will remain open for new members to join at any time.

Who can come? The Youth Band is open to any young person who wishes to learn a brass instrument or who wishes to improve their existing playing. Parents are also welcome to come along and learn alongside the young people if they would like to have a go.

How much does it cost? The cost for the Youth Band is £5 per week, per person. This includes all tuition during the session and also the use of a Band instrument, if required.

Can I borrow an instrument? Instruments will be available to loan for those who require them at no additional cost. This instrument can be taken home to practise in between the Youth Band sessions. All we ask is that you take good care of it and if it gets damaged, please let us know.

Where does it happen? The Youth Band takes place at the St Albans City Brass Bandroom in north St Albans. Our bandroom is upstairs and has plentiful space for teaching and full band rehearsals. There is also ample free parking at both the front and rear of the building.
