St Albans City Youth Band

Would your son or daughter like to learn a brass instrument?

  • tuition and weekly rehearsals for just £1 per week
  • free loan of a brass instrument, beginners welcome
  • Wednesday evenings 5 to 6:30pm
  • Summer trial period: 5 weeks for only £5

Our junior training band is open to all aspiring young musicians, regardless of ability or prior experience. Tuition of brass and percussion instruments is given before a weekly rehearsal of the training band. The band is directed by Simon Tong, an accomplished local musician, conductor and tutor. We are planning to have regular concerts, including joint concerts with St Albans City Brass Band.

The summer trial period for the youth band will run over 5 weeks up until the summer holidays on the following evenings: June 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July 5th. The 5 weeks will cost a total of £5 – our introductory offer. If you would like tuition for 5 weeks before the start of the band as you are new to your instrument, this can be arranged across April and May by arrangement.

Who can come? The Youth Band is open to any young person who wishes to learn a brass instrument or who wishes to improve their existing playing. Parents are also welcome to come along and learn alongside the young people if they would like to have a go.

How much does it cost? The cost for the Youth Band is £1 per week, per person. This includes all tuition during the session and also the use of a Band instrument, if required.

Can I borrow an instrument? Instruments will be available to loan for those who require them at no additional cost. This instrument can be taken home to practise in between the Youth Band sessions. All we ask is that you take good care of it and if it gets damaged, please let us know.

Where does it happen? The Youth Band takes place at the St Albans City Brass Bandroom in north St Albans. Our bandroom is upstairs and has plentiful space for teaching and full band rehearsals. There is also ample free parking at both the front and rear of the building.
